Cottonwood Heights, UT is one of Utah’s newest cities. Officially founded in January of 2005, it was previously an unincorporated part of Salt Lake County in Utah. As of July 1, 2015, the latest population estimate was 34,343, making the city the 21st largest community in the state. This represents a 2.3% growth from previous 2010 population estimates.
The cultural makeup of residents of Cottonwood Heights is predominantly white at 91.3%, followed by Hispanic/Latino at 5.1%, Asian at 3.2%, and African American at 0.9%. Ancestral origins of residents are varied but include English, German, European, Irish, Swedish, and Danish. Spoken language is predominantly English although there are some Spanish speaking residents.
The City of Cottonwood Heights, UT is located along the East side of the Salt Lake Valley, South of Holladay and Murray, and North of Sandy. It is known as the gateway to the Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons as it predominantly consists of the ridge between the canyons. In fact, its official nickname is “city between the canyons.”
The city is known for its parks and safe neighborhoods, as well as its proximity to well-known ski resorts, including the resorts at Alta, Snowbird, Brighton, and Solitude. Also popular are many miles of hiking trails, both natural and paved, including a new trail along the length of the Big Cottonwood Creek within the city limits.
