Utah has long been a sought after state to raise a family in. Sandy is located at the base of Wasatch Mountain Range and is just thirteen miles south of Salt Lake City. It is believe that this area was part of an early settlement location for the Paiute, Shoshone, and Bannock Indian tribes. It was a passing through point from winter homes to summer locations ripe for fishing. The first permanent settlers established base camps in Sandy dating back to the 1860s, and growth has continued ever since. With a current population of just under 90,000 full time residents and an elevation of 4,450 feet, this Utah city comprised roughly 22.3 square miles of land.
The city was officially incorporated in 1893. This was actually an effort undertaken by the majority Mormon population to deal with the unsavory characters that had begun to reside there thanks to the mining potential of the region. It is because of these mines that Sandy actually became something of a boomtown, whereas other similarly placed rural towns across Utah have largely ceased to exist today.
Singles and families alike will find plenty to do in and around the city. For those that are into sports, particularly soccer, Rio Tinto Stadium is nearby. This is a true entertainment mecca with regular events being held throughout the year here. To get out and enjoy nature even more, you can always head to Mount Olympus as well. There are excellent hiking trails here that will provide you and your family with more than a little vigorous activity. At the end of it, you will all be rewarded with some of the most spectacular views that you have ever cast your eyes upon.
More outdoor activities await you at the Storm Mountain Park, Farnsworth Farms, and Bells Canyon Trail. If you are ready for some indoor time, you can always go shopping at the Shops at South Town. Don’t forget that one of the advantages of living in Utah is that a ski slope is never very far away. These ranges make for great weekend getaways in the winter, and provide great hiking opportunities in the summer.
Housing values in this part of the state are quite strong. The current average listing price in the city is just under $520,000. The median rent per month is quite respectable for the area at $1,697. With the crime rate being low and more than thirty schools to choose from in the area, it is easy to see why many people leave Salt Lake City for the quieter pace found in the suburbs. Just over 16 percent of the population of the city is single, while 91 percent are currently home owners, With a median age of 35 and an annual household income of over $77,000 the quality of living is high and community standards are up there as well. Out of the adult population in the city, some 44 percent are college educated.
